Marble Dust Acrylic Paint

Acrylic gesso very often has the addition of marble dust as an additive to make it slightly denser. Use a dry blending brush to smooth out the fine veins. Fredrix powdered marble dust can be used to make acrylic modeling paste glue base gesso and all water and oil dispersed paints. Mix these materials well with your paintbrush or palette knife.

Marble dust is also used in making gesso though it tends to be a harder and not as white as the french chalk. Acrylic gesso uses marble dust as one of the primary components. How to draw marble. It is made from ph neutral basic calcium carbonate. Use it also to create a textured surface for drawing. Ther were two types of gesso used by the old masters gesso grosso and gesso sottille.

Molding pastes are extra thick opaque pastes made with actual marble dust and acrylic polymer emulsion. Blend out fine veins. The dust is also used to make plasters such as marmorino and venetian plaster as a filler in paint or in frescoes to replace sand. Sponging white back into the marble pattern is a secret weapon.

It is in fact just an acrylic paint primer that has no gypsum or plaster in it at all. Repeat this step at least two times and add in some white veins to create highlighted areas. It is used as an ingredient in venetian and marmorino plaster.
